Social Media for Teachers 101: DIY Meme Sharing

Want to share and make powerful or funny memes? How about learning how to share them  in a fast, efficient, and savvy way with multiple social networks? Here’s how to do it- you’ll be up and running in no time, and your kiddos will think you’re an expert!

Materials: Android smartphone with data connection or connect to your wifi at home/library/wherever, computer with internet (If you have an iPhone, I’m sure the process is similar)

1. Download the following apps onto your smartphone. They are all FREE:

  1. Meme Generator Free (you do not need the paid version).
  2. Facebook
  3. Twitter
  4. Pinterest

That’s all you’ll need for now.

Don’t worry about the other social networks for now, like Instagram and Google+. We’ll go over those in the next few lessons. Remember this is Social Media for Teachers 101, not the PhD level dissertation class!

3. Once you have the membership, start creating memes on your smartphone by clicking on MemeGenerator.  Click SAVE when you are done creating the meme.  You can make a bunch at once, and then share them as you see fit.

4. Here’s the super awesome time-saving part:

a. Find the meme under the Memes folder in your Gallery (you don’t need to put it there-it’s automatically filed there by your smartphone).

e. Select the board you want to pin to (it can be any of your boards- you can always switch it later), write a short description of your pin. If you don’t know what to put, you can always write the text of the meme in that area.    This is the best part NOW…. check off the FaceBook and Twitter boxes (you may need to make sure that your accounts are connected to pinterest, if they aren’t already). Then click Pin It.

Voila! You’ve just submitted your very own DIY meme to three social networks in one fell swoop. Great job!

Rinse and repeat.  Happy meme-making and pinning!

That’s all for now for our first lesson in Social Media for Teachers 101.

To your online meme-sharing success,

Nancy :>

P.S. Remember to pause, breathe, and wait 10 seconds before sending a controversial meme. Use common sense, but don’t be afraid to be bold and USE YOUR TEACHER VOICE!

P.P.S. I do look forward to seeing your memes.  Let’s connect on FaceBook: http://facebook.com/nancycarroll, send me a friend request and a message with the meme in it. I can’t wait to see what you create!
